How to Paint The Walls Of Your House – The Preparatory Work Is the Hardest Part
Before you start adding the gorgeous new paint color you always wanted to your walls, read the following tips and suggestions for a flawless finish!
The most important part of any paint job is the preparation. Wall color can be added any time after that initial coat dries, but the preparation is where you use the extra paint to cover and repair the previous coats as well as to prepare the walls for the new color, and the new color will “bite” into the walls differently than the old color did.
If your walls are in good shape, you’ll have no problems with the finish, but if your walls are in need of repair, you should start with some form of surface preparation first.
Sanding: First, you’ll want to sand off any rough surfaces like flaking paint, old drywall screws, and the edges of joints. If you have a joint that needs caulking, use a caulk gun in a 2″-3″ nozzle to prime the joint before shooting paint onto the joint.
Pressure washing: Before you spray the paint onto the walls, you’ll want to wash all the walls down with a pressure washer, and any cracks or cracks in the wall should be repaired using putty and then sanded using the pressure washer to even out the surface of the wall.
Spackle: For any imperfections on the walls or joints, you’ll want to spackle on a white drywall compound to even out the surface with a hand-held drywall plane.
Spraying: After you’ve prepped your walls, use a 3″ air gun or paint in an HVLP sprayer to apply the new wall color. Do this in areas where you’ll be applying a second coat.
Remember, you’ll want to apply an additional coat of paint to your walls, or a primer as needed. I recommend a primer and a second coat for extra protection when you’re dealing with imperfect drywall surfaces.
After you have completed all of your preparation, you can spray, but make sure you’re properly protected!
Happy painting!
